Type 2 diabetes

What are the symptoms of type 2 diabetes? Who are affected by this disease?

No reaction to insulin

Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. It is also called as insulin resistance. The body does not (fully) respond to the insulin which is produced by the pancreas. Because of this, the insulin cannot work properly. The blood sugar level keep rising and it sends that false information that the body needs more insulin. This way the pancreas gets exhausted which results in the body producing even less and less insulin. This is causing even higher blood sugar levels which leads to hyperglycaemia.

Healthy lifestyle - management

This type of diabetes is generally diagnosed in adults – mainly elderly people – but younger people and children are also affected. This is probably due to the rising statistics in childhood obesity. Type 2 diabetes cannot be cured but can be managed by healthy lifestyle: following a healthy diet, regular physical activity and maintaining an optimal body weight.
